The Wild FLower Meadow

The wild flower meadow is towards the top of the gardens, in the flat grass area above the scource of the stream. It was planted by the gardeners involved in the Friends group in the autumn of 2008. 520 wildflower plant plugs were planted randomly in the existing, somewhat weedy, grass. The area will be mowed just twice a year, once very early in the spring, before growth gets going and then at the end of summer when the plants have set seed. At least 8 of each plant went in, in small groups, but we planted over 100 wild primroses, so look out for them in March. This is a full list of the wildflowers we planted, there was probably a selection of others already growing there, so go and see what you can spot.
